Father class/fighter class hybrid. Initially built as a 'father' for the many human children entrusted to the androids off-world. Later upgraded himself to a fighter class after the complete wipe-out of the human kids.
Largely indifferent to his role as a father figure: he didn't know his assigned 'family' long enough to really form huge attachments to them. His partner suffered far greater loss, before she was ultimately executed by the rebellion forces.
Despite his initial programming, 'Kal' has found himself more aligned with the rebellion than he is with the Earth loyalists. He believes in android superiority more than he does equality. In doing so, he tends to offer Earth Loyalists a chance to reconsider their stance and prefers to forcibly reprogram them rather than execute them.
Maybe the general impression of those who did know him prior to their mission, think he was forcibly reprogrammed himself??
